Superchick

superchickChicago-based Christian rock band, Superchick, is known for albums that inspire, empower, and entertain with a call to rise above society's unhealthy trappings. Their songs are a mixture of pop, rap, rock and roll, and jazz. Their lyrics are infused with positive Christian messages, covering relevant topics such as peer pressure, self-esteem, and purity.

The group uses personal experience to carefully craft lyrics that will send a message to today’s youth. Superchick hopes that teenagers will leave their concerts with that message ringing in their ears. They desire to start a revolution by inspiring young people to recognize that everyone has potential and that God has given everyone gifts. Their goal is to inspire teenagers to take action and make a difference, recognizing that they can have an impact on the world.

The spiritually-centered tracks of Superchick have gained them two Dove nominations and they have had over 40 major placements of their songs in TV and movies including the popular TV show Alias, and the movie Legally Blonde, starring Reese Witherspoon. The band’s most recent album Beauty from Pain breathes fresh life into their relentless search for the next young revolutionary.

Superchick’s previous albums include Karaoke Superstar, Last One Picked, Beauty from Pain, and the remix disc Regeneration.

Superchick “Unplugged”

Our team spent some time with Superchick while working on an upcoming ministry project. We asked them a few questions about being famous, their personal faith, and the relevance of their music. You can hear more of Superchick’s thoughts by watching one of the Bluefish TV video resources on the right.

Bluefish TV: How do you continue to stay humble as you have become more famous?

Superchick: I think just being right with God. There’s just a humility that comes along with reading the Bible. If you really are doing it for the right reasons I don’t see how you can get puffed up. I would feel pretty guilty after a couple of days of thinking I was a lot bigger than I am. I know that anything good that comes from our band and makes an impact is just God. We are just a bunch of kids that started writing music and it’s gotten a lot bigger.

Bluefish TV: When did your faith become personal and real?

Superchick: For me, the first time my faith became real was probably right before my junior year in high school. I realized this is real, and God has shown himself to me in a way that I never thought possible. It was one of those things where I knew it was right and there was no doubt in my mind that he was real and I needed to have a relationship with him. Every day you grow in that and some days you fall from that…it’s always a struggle.

Bluefish TV: Why is it that people relate to your music?

Superchick: We set out to make a record that’s not just for Christian kids, but for everybody...I think we wanted to bridge the gap between Christians and non-Christians, where a Christian kid could give a non-Christian a CD to listen to and not feel like they’re being preached at and really still be spoken to and really encouraged…that’s why we talk about these issues because we all go through them. I think that’s what sets us apart...I think that’s why people have related to it because they’ve been there.
