Chris Tomlin
Christian worship leader and songwriter, Chris Tomlin, has written songs such as "Forever," "We Fall Down," and "The Wonderful Cross," and he is considered one of this era's top songwriters for the church. With millions singing his songs weekly, the native of Austin, Texas is recognized as a pivotal voice of today's modern expression of Christian worship.
His undeniable energy is charismatic and contagious. Avoiding the trappings of public performance, Chris stands beside the people he serves, raising his voice to God with them so that they share God’s presence together. "God promises that when we draw close to Him, He'll draw close to us," he says. "That's what I hope happens through these songs." Rooted in one central truth, that God is the center of everything, Chris is shaping the language of worship for generations present and future.
Partnering with the Passion Conferences, Chris has also been involved in leading worship for thousands of college-students across the nation.
Chris’ albums include The Noise We Make, Not to Us, Arriving, and Live from Austin Music Hall. He has five songs in Christian Copyright Licensing International’s Top 60 and four more in the service’s Top 500.
Chris Tomlin “Unplugged”
We sat down with Chris during a recent ministry project and asked him a few questions about worship as a lifestyle and knowing God. You can hear more of Chris’ thoughts by watching one of the Bluefish TV video resources to the right.
Bluefish TV: What role does worship have in your life?
Chris Tomlin: Worship is simply every bit of who I am. It’s all of me for all of Him. Paul said it this way, ‘I urge you brothers in view of God’s mercy to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is your spiritual act of worship.’ It would be easy if he would have said, present your music, present your songs, present Sunday morning. But, he says to present your bodies; everything about you to God. This is your act of worship.
Bluefish TV: What do you tell people when they ask you how they can make worship a lifestyle?
Chris Tomlin: The best way to obey someone is to trust someone. You don’t trust them unless you get to know them. That’s a daily thing for me and it is for anyone…you don’t get to a point where you say, ‘Now I know God and now I’m done.’ It’s an ongoing process of knowing God and trusting Him. As you trust Him and know Him and walk with Him and obey Him, worship continues to grow until it becomes every bit of who you are.
Bluefish TV: How do you encourage others to know God better?
Chris Tomlin: My best encouragement is to get into the word of God. Get into his scriptures. He’s given those to us; they’ve been passed to us to know His heart. The best way to know God is to spend time with Him and the best way to spend time with Him is to read His word.
